Softball Swept By Georgetown In Double-Header

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College softball team was defeated by Georgetown in a double-header on Wednesday, April 5 in Washington, D.C. The Friars fell, 7-1, in game one and 5-4 in game two.
 
GAME ONE NOTES
-After two scoreless innings, the Friars gained a 1-0 advantage. Freshman Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) walked with bases loaded allowing senior Gianna Magrino (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) to score.
-The Hoyas' Mae Forshey hit an RBI double to left field in the bottom of the third to tie the score, 1-1.
-In the bottom of the fourth, Georgetown gained a four-point lead firing off two home runs, 5-1.
-The Hoyas added insurance scoring two more runs in the sixth inning, 7-1.
-Freshman Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) started in the circle for the Friars. She pitched 5.2 innings allowing eight hits while striking out two batters. Freshman Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) came in for relief pitching 0.1 innings.
 
GAME TWO NOTES
-Junior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) homered to left field to start the game. The Friars led 1-0.
-In the bottom of the second, the Hoyas' Brittany Lew reached home plate and evened the score, 1-1.
-The Friars regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI single from freshman Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.).
-In the top of the fifth inning, the Friars extended their lead as Jonte hit her first collegiate home run, 4-1.
-Georgetown's Kayla Dunn doubled to left center field to bring in a run for the Hoyas in the fifth inning, 4-2.
-In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Hoyas' Kacy Lyman slimmed the Friars lead to one, 4-3.
-Georgetown scored two runs in the final inning of the game to gain the lead and earn the win.  
-Senior Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) pitched 5.0 innings for Providence. She allowed four hits, two runs and struck out one batter. Jonte pitched 1.1 innings for the Friars allowing two hits and three runs.
 
ON DECK
The Friars will conclude their series against Georgetown on Thursday, April 6 in Washington, D.C. First-pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
