Dylan Wykes (Kingston, Ontario), a freshman on the Providence College men's cross country team, is one of six men to earn a spot on the Canadian Team, that will compete at the World Junior Cross Country Championships, held in Dublin, Ireland on March 23, 2002.

Wykes earned a spot at the Junior World Championships, with a second-place finish at the Canadian Junior Cross Country Championships, in New Brunswick, Canada. Wykes finished the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:49. Joe Dionne (Ontario, Canada), an early signee who will enter Providence College in the fall of 2002 as a member of the Friar men's cross country team, also qualified for the World Junior Championships, with a fourth-place finish (27:10) in New Brunswick. The top-six finishers at the Canadian Junior Championships, automatically make the Canadian Team, which will compete at the Junior World Championships.

Providence College graduate, Sarah Dupre ('00), won the Senior Women's Cross Country race at the Canadian Championships. The victory marked the first-ever Canadian National Title for Dupre, who earned All-America honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, while at Providence.
