Head Coach Ray Treacy And Senior Danette Doetzel Earn Regional Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association announced the NCAA Division I Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for 2008. Providence College head coach Ray Treacy and senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan) each earned honors. Treacy was named Northeast Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, while Doetzel was named Northeast Region Female Athlete of the Year.

Treacy guided his women's cross country program to its 20th-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, marking the longest streak of appearances in NCAA history. Each of those appearances have come under the direction of Coach Treacy, who just completed his 25th season at the helm. This season, the Friars won their second-consecutive NCAA Northeast Regional title and sixth overall.

Doetzel earned Northeast Region Female Athlete of the Year honors for the second-straight season, in addition to winning the NCAA Northeast Region individual title in back-to-back seasons (2007-2008). Doetzel's cross country season also featured a sixth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship, earning her All-BIG EAST honors. Doetzel also finished among the top-10 at Pre-Nationals.
