PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams are ranked among the top-30 in the nation according to the latest USTFCCCA Division 1 National Poll, released on October 21. The Friar women's team is ranked 24th in the nation with a total of 69 points. The men's team stands strong at 27th with 49 points.

Oregon tops the men's poll with 352 points, followed by Stanford (332), Oklahoma St. (323), Portland (318), and Alabama (316). Washington remains as No. 1 in the women's poll with 360 points. The Oregon women remain second (347), followed by Florida State (334), Princeton (324), and West Virginia (311).

Providence men and women teams look to move up in the rankings, as they compete Friday October 31, 2008 at the BIG EAST Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. Both teams will be running for the BIG EAST title. Senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) and sophomore David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) have enjoyed success so far this year, and will both be battling for a chance at an individual tile.
