Women's Cross Country Ranked 21st Nationally
PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WOMEN'S AND MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RANKED 21st AND 25th NATIONALLY PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked No. 21 in the country, according to the FinishLynx NCAA Women's Cross Country Poll released on Monday, Oct. 18. PC's men's team is ranked 25th, according to the latest Mondo NCAA Poll released Tuesday, Oct. 19. The women's team captured their fourth consecutive and ninth overall New England Championship at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on Oct. 15. Providence was led by sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) who finished second in a time of 17:28. Senior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (third - 17:32), junior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. (fourth - 17:35), sophomore Claire Shearman of Portsmouth, N.H. (12th - 18:01) and freshman Emily Tallen of Kingston, Ontario (18th - 18:07) also scored for the Friars. The Friars will return to action on Oct. 29 at the BIG EAST Championship in Van Cortlandt Park- New York , N.Y. The men's team placed third at the New England Championship in Boston on Oct. 15. Senior Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland) captured the individual title in a time of 23:43. Also finishing in the top 10 for the Friars were junior Ciaran Lynch (Limerick, Ireland), who placed sixth with a time of 24:27, and freshman Adam Sutton (Preston, England), running in a time of 24:35 (seventh place). The Friars will return to action on Oct. 29 at the BIG EAST Championship in Van Cortlandt Park- New York , N.Y.
