BOSTON, Mass. -- The 20th-ranked Providence College women's cross country team won the New England Championship on Friday, Oct. 15, 1999 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women's team scored 39 points to win its fourth consecutive and ninth overall New England crown. The 14th-ranked men's cross country squad placed third with 108 points.

The women were led by sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.), who placed second in a time of 17:28. Also scoring for the Friars were senior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (third - 17:32) and Rachel Hixson of Media Pa. (fourth - 17:25).

Senior Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland) won the men's race in a time 23:43 to pace the Friars to a third-place finish. Also scoring for PC were sophomore Ciaran Lynch of Limerick, Ireland (sixth - 24:27) and freshman Adam Sutton of Preston, England (seventh - 24:35).

The men's and women's teams return to action on Oct. 29 at the BIG EAST Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in New York, N.Y.
