Women's Cross Country Ranked Eighth In Monday's National Poll
Oct. 15, 2001 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team dropped one spot to be ranked eighth in the country in Monday, October 15's FinishLynx/NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll. Last week the Friars were ranked No. 7 for the second week. PC received a total of 228 after winning the New England Championship on Friday, October 12. The Friars finished first out of 29 teams. Stanford took over the top ranking this week after Colorado, who had been ranked No. 1 in each of the previous three polls, was defeated in their last meet. The Cardinal received all 13 first-place votes and totalled 324 points. Brigham Young moved into the No. 2 spot after receiving 311 points and moving up from the No. 4 position. Georgetown made the biggest jump, moving from No. 11 to No. 3 in the country. North Carolina State dropped one spot from No. 3 last week for the fourth-ranked position this week. Boston College moved up one spot to No. 5 this week after receiving 260 points and Michigan State moved from No. 13 to No. 6 after garnering 256 points. The Friars compete next on Friday, October 26 at the BIG EAST Conference Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. FinishLynx/NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll
