PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked seventh in the FinishLynx Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll, released on Monday, October 14.

The Friars, who were ranked eighth last week, received 304 points to garner the seventh spot. Brigham Young continues to hold the top spot with 390 points. Stanford (373 points), Michigan State (351 points), Colorado (345 points) and Georgetown (319 points) round out the top five.

The Friars captured the Penn State National Meet on Saturday, October 11. Sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) led the Friars with a third-place finish in a time of 21:00.26. Senior All-American Roisin McGettigan of Wicklow, Ireland (eighth - 21:26.20), senior Emer O'Shea of Limerick, Ireland (12th - 21:48.63), graduate student Heather Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. (13th - 21:50.09) and sophomore Deirdre Byrne of Avoca, Ireland (15th - 21:58.87) rounded out the scoring for the Friars.

The Friars will return to action at the BIG EAST Championships on November 1 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
