Providence College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Ranked in the USTFCCCA Week 4 Poll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released national rankings today for the fourth week of the 2011 cross country season, with both Friar cross country teams represented. After taking the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., the women's ranking improved one spot to 2nd, with 346 points and 5 first place votes. The men's team recieved 81 points and are now ranked 24th.

The women placed four runners in the top twelve at last week's Paul Short Invitational. Sophomore Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) led the Friars by finishing third with a time of 20:20. Other strong performances were turned in by sophomore Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) placing sixth with a time of 20:36, senior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finishing ninth with a time of 20:51, and junior Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) finishing 12th with a time of 20:57. Sophomore Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia) finished 71st and rounded out the scoring for the Friars with a time of 21:49.

On the men's side, senior Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) crossed with a time of 24:21 in ninth place. Freshman Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) had another strong performance by placing 14th with a time of 24:40. Freshman Benjamin Connor (Derby, England) finished in 54th with a time of 25:14, and junior Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) finished in 78th with a time of 25:24. Freshman Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.) rounded out the scoring for the Friars, clocking in at 25:31 and finishing 93rd overall.

 

 

Both teams will look to build upon last week's strong performances when they run at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on Saturday, October 8.
