PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College cross country junior Kimberly Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) was named Division I Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Female Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, September 30. It marks the second time this season that a PC female runner has been named ECAC Athlete of the Week. Junior Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) won the award on September 16.

Smith led the Friars to a fourth-place finish (26 teams) at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 27 in Minneapolis, Minn. Smith became the third runner at Providence to win the individual title at the Roy Griak Invitational and the first since Sara Dupre did it in 1997. For Smith, it also marked her second first-place finish of the three meets that she has competed in this season. She also captured the Providence College Invitational on September 5.

The Friars return to action on Friday, October 17th at the Penn State Meet.
