PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team moved up five spots in the FinishLynx Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll, released on Monday, September 30. The Friars, who were ranked 13th last week, are now ranked eighth, which is their highest ranking this season.

Providence received 283 points, while Brigham Young remained at No. 1 with 390 points and received all 13 first place votes. Stanford, Notre Dame, Colorado and Michigan State round out the top five.

The Friars finished third at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 28 in Minneapolis, Minn. Senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) led the Friars with a fifth-place finish in a time of 21:18. Sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) crossed the finish line in seventh place in a time of 21:21.

The Friars will return to action on Friday, October 11 when they compete at the New England Championship in Boston, Mass.
