Women's Cross Country Ranked First In Nation

Sept. 27, 2016

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The USTFCCCA released their latest national poll on Sept. 27, ranking the Providence College women’s cross country team first in the nation. The Friars have slowly but surely closed the gap on the number one spot since being ranked third in the Pre-season poll on Aug. 30. The Friars received four first place votes and have a four-point lead over Colorado and New Mexico, who are both tied for second place. This is the first time the women have been ranked number one in the nation since November 18, 2013.

The men continue to receive votes in the national poll and are currently ranked 33rd in the nation. The men look to improve upon their ranking this Friday, Sept. 30, at the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame. The men’s race will feature many ranked teams and a strong showing will help the Friars jump back into the top 30. The women's team will also compete at the meet and will face competition from No. 2 University of New Mexico and No. 5 North Carolina State among others
