Women’s Cross Country To Compete At Coast-to-Coast Battle In Beantown

Sept. 23, 2015

Providence, R.I. -

The Providence College women’s cross country team is set to compete at the Coast-to-Coast Battle In Beantown at Franklin Park this Friday (Sept. 25). The women are undefeated so far this season, with win at the UNH Tri-Meet (Sept. 5) and a top-5 sweep at the Nassaney Invitational (Sept. 12).

Leading the charge on Friday will be junior Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.). Like the team, she too is undefeated after finishing as the top individual in each of the two meets this season. For her performance at Bryant, she was named the BIG EAST Athlete of the Week (Sept. 15) and will look to be a threat in Boston.

Alongside Rocha will be senior Sarah Collins (Basil, Switzerland). Collins saw drastic improvements in the week between UNH and Bryant, finishing alongside Rocha in Smithfield. Two years ago, Collins placed fourth at the Coast-to-Coast Battle In Beantown and will look to push the pace in the strong field this Friday.

Senior Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) and sophomores Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) and Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) will join Rocha and Collins. Mullins and Ilarda finished side-by-side at the Nassaney Invitational, while Lembo wasn’t too far behind. The trio will look to finish strong in Boston again.

Rounding out the top-7 will be senior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) and junior Emily Bushey (Vernon, N.J.). Keating made her season debut last week at Bryant, placing ninth over the 5km course, while Bushey finished as the No. 6 Friar across the line in seventh-place.

The Friars will be up against No. 4 Georgetown, No. 19 Syracuse and No. 25 Dartmouth at Franklin Park. Follow @FriarsXCTrack on Twitter for live updates of the race.
