Women's Cross Country Ranked Fifth in National Poll
Sept. 23, 2003 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team received 333 points and climbed to No. 5 in the FinishLynx Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll, which was released on Tuesday, September 23. Brigham Young (390 points) received all 13 first-place votes to maintain the No. 1 spot. Stanford (375 points), Notre Dame (358 points) and Colorado (355 points) are ranked in the top four, respectively. Providence and Notre Dame are two of four BIG EAST schools ranked in the top eight. Georgetown (312) is ranked seventh while Villanova (294 points) is eighth. Providence began the season ranked sixth and have been victorious in their first two meets in 2003. The Friars most recently competed on September 12 at the Boston College Select Meet, where they finished first of 10 teams. Juniors Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) and Kimberly Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) finished first and second, respectively to lead the Friars. Providence returns to competition on Saturday, September 27 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
