Providence College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Ranked in the USTFCCCA Week 1 Poll

Sophmore Emily Sisson finished first overall in her first race as a Friar at the Bryant Invitational.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released the first week of national rankings today for the 2011 cross country season with both Friar cross country teams represented. The Providence women currently rank 3rd in the country with 328 points. The men are currently ranked 17th in the country with 158 points, up one spot from their preseason ranking of 18th.

Both the men and the women are coming off strong performances at the Bryant Invitational on Saturday, September 10. The teams swept their competition, with the men scoring first of ten teams and the women scoring first of eleven teams.

At the Bryant Invitational, freshman Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) led the Friars on the men’s side by placing third overall in his first collegiate race. On the women’s side, sophomores Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) and Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand), along with senior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) swept the first three places in the race.

Both teams resume competition on September 30, when they will compete in the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
