Women's Cross Country To Compete At Stony Brook

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College women's cross country team will compete in Stony Brook, N.Y. at the Wolfie Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Three freshmen, Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia), Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) will join sophomores Jillian Fanning (Manlius, N.Y.) and Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) to represent the Friars on Saturday. Ilarda will make her collegiate debut.

Juniors Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.), Katie Sischo (Jamesville, N.Y.), and Lauren Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y.) along with seniors Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkill, N.Y.), Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Julie Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) also will be racing on Saturday.


 

 

The Friars will compete against Columbia, who was ranked eighth in the USTFCCCA Preseason Regional Poll (8/25), Stony Brook, who landed 10th in the poll, and Marist College. Providence will enter this weekend ranked third in the preseason regional poll and 18th in the nation.

Last season, the women finished first at Stony Brook with a total of 26 points, 16 points ahead of Columbia. The Friars claimed the top three spots and had five finishers in the top 13.

In the team's first race of the season on Friday, Aug. 30, the women tied with New Hampshire at the UNH Dual meet. Freshman Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) was second overall and the first Friar to cross the line. For her accomplishment, she was named the BIG EAST Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week (9/9) and the Corvias ECAC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week (9/3).
