Providence College Cross Country Results vs. New Hampshire - September 6, 2009 Get Acrobat Reader

In the women's race, after a controlled first mile of 5:46, PC had a large pack of six women running together as one pack with UNH mixing it up with a few runners.  After about a mile and half into the race one of UNH's runners took the lead to string out the field a little, but PC's pack was largely able to cover the move.  Freshman Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) was first to cross the finish line for PC in first place in a time of 16:46, with Freshman Samantha Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) placing second-overall in a time of 16:58, Junior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finishing third in a time of 16:59. Junior Emma Perron (West Hartford, Conn.) finished fifth-overall in a time of 17:05 and rounding out the top five for PC was Sara Graney (Palisades, N.Y.) finishing sixth-overall in a time of 17:06.  In the team competition, PC won the meet with 17 points to New Hampshire's 43 points.

In the Men's race, PC took control of the meet from the start with five PC athletes running out front from the gun.  Through 3-miles PC led with four guys working together throughout the hilly wooded area of the course. The four athletes kept their lead with Senior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) finishing first-overall in 25:07 for the 5 mile course. Sophomore Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) finished second overall in 25:09 with Junior David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) finishing third-overall in 25:10. Sophomore Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) finished fourth-overall in 25:15, with Tom Webb (Williston, Vt.) rounding out the top five for PC with a sixth-place finish in 25:18. In the team competition, PC won the dual meet with a score of 17 to 43 over New Hampshire.

Up next for the Friars will be the Central Connecticut Invitational on September 26, where the JV will compete. The Varsity will next compete at Notre Dame on Friday, October 2.
