PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Kim Smith, a Providence College alum ('05), placed 15th in the 2012 London Olympic Games marathon on Sunday, August 5. Smith finished in a time of 2:26:59 amongst a tough field of 107 athletes. This was Smith's third Olympic Games representing New Zealand. In 2004, she competed in the 5,000 meters at the Athens Olympics and in 2008 she competed in the 10,000 meters at the Beijing Olympics.
While at Providence, Smith became the only Friar to win four NCAA titles. She captured the 3,000 and 5,000-meter titles at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, becoming the only Friar in program history to capture two NCAA titles in the same meet. She also captured the 2004 NCAA Cross Country individual title and the 5,000-meter title at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Dylan Wykes '05 will compete in the marathon this weekend. His event is to begin at 6:00 a.m. (ET) and 11:00 a.m. local time in London on Sunday, August 12. As a Friar, Wykes competed in four-consecutive NCAA Cross Country Championships, finishing as the top Friar in 2003. In the 2003-04 season, Wykes captured a BIG EAST Indoor title in the 3,000 meters.
