PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Monday, March 31 that junior cross-country runner Gladys Ganiel (Harrington, Maine) was selected to the GTE Academic All-America District 1 Fall/Winter At-Large Team for her performance during the cross-country season this past fall.
Ganiel, a political science major, has earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.97 in her first three years at Providence. The junior from Harrington, Maine excelled this past fall helping the cross country team place sixth at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Nov. 24. She finished 21st and scored as Providence placed second in the NCAA District I Cross Country Championship on Nov. 15. On October 17, Ganiel placed ninth and helped team win the New England Cross Country Championship. She also finished 17th and helped the team win its third consecutive BIG EAST Cross Country title.
This honor is not new to Ganiel, who earned 1996 GTE Third Team At-Large Academic All-America Honor for the fall and 1997 GTE Second Team At-Large Academic All-America Honors for the spring in track. She also received 1996 and 1997 BIG EAST Academic All-Star honors.
Ganiel will be considered for the GTE Academic All-America At-Large National Team honors, which will be announced Thursday, April 23.
