Men's and Women's Cross Country Compete At NCAA Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. on November 24. The Providence women's team placed 13th in a field of 31 teams with 340 points. The Friar men placed 20th in a field of 31 with 465 points.

Senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan) was the Friars' top finisher overall on the women's side. She placed 23rd in a time of 20:37 to earn All-America honors for the second consecutive season. Classmate Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) was the second Friar to cross the finish line in 56th place with a time of 20:58. Junior Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) and freshman Mary Kate Champagne (Plattsburg, N.Y.) finished 76th and 77th, respectively. Douglas recorded a time of 21:11, while Champagne crossed the finish line one second later at 21:12. Freshman Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) rounds out the list of scorers as she finished in 108th place (21:29).

On the men's side, sophomore David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) placed 17th in a time of 21:36 and was the top PC finisher. McCarthy's earned All-America accolades for the first time in just his second season at Providence. Junior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) finished in 72nd-place (30:31), while freshman Lee Carey (Bedworth, England) placed 90th (30:41). Senior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) and junior Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) round out the list of Friar scorers. Yeates finished 151st (32:09), Channon finished in 197th place (33:01).
