Men's And Women's Cross Country Finish Second At NCAA Regional

VAN CORTLANDT PARK, N.Y. -- The Providence College men's cross and women's cross country teams finished second at the NCAA Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 16 at Van Corlandt Park, N.Y. The 12h-ranked men's team took second place with 71 points, two points short of first-place Iona (69 points). The 15th-ranked women's team scored 75 points to finish second behind Columbia (70 points). The top two men's and women's teams advance to the NCAA Championship on Monday, November 25 in Terre Haute, Ind.

In the men's race, the Friars were led by senior Adam Sutton (Preston, England) who finished third overall is a time of 30.16. Senior Tyler McCabe Mystic, Conn.) and sophomore Patrick Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) finished 11th and 12th, respectively. McCabe completed the race in a time of 31:05, while Moulton finished in a time of 31.15. Also scoring for the Friars were sophomores Dylan Wykes of Kingston, Ont. (15th - 31:21) and Pat Guidera of Clonmel, Ireland (20th - 31:33.

In the women's race sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) and senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) were the top two finishers for the Friars. Cullen finished fourth overall in a time of 20:57, while McGettigan took fifth-place in a time of 21:02. Graduate student Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) finished 18th in a time of 21:36, while sophomore Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) took 23rd place in a time of 21:49. Also scoring for PC was senior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) who took 25th-place in a time of 21:51.

 

 

The men's team will be making its eighth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, while the women's team will be making their 14th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship, which will be held on Monday, November 25 in Terre Haute, Ind.
