NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Providence College women's cross country team earned a first place finish at the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet in New Britain, Conn. today (Oct. 25). Senior Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia) led the women in the 3k race at Stanley Quarter Park with a second place finish.
Thek crossed the finsh line with a time of 9:51. Sophomore Kathleen Powell (Wrentham, Mass.) was the second scoring Friar with a time of 10:24 for a 13th place finish. With a time of 10:27 (18th place), senior Jackie McCarty (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was the third Providence runner to cross the finish line.
Freshman Keelin Hollowood (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and junior Caile Kohlbrenner (Sparkhill, N.Y.) were the final Friars to score. Hollowood finished the race in a time of 10:31 in 22nd, while Kohlbrenner finished 23rd with a time of 10:35.
Senior Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) ran to a 34th (10:41) place finish, while junior Julie Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) earned a 67th place finish, with a time of 11:12.
Providence finished tied for first out of 15 teams with 78 points. UMass Amherst tied with Providence for first, while Bryant finished third with 117 points. The Friars will use this race to determine the final nine person squad that will compete at the BIG EAST Championships in Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
