Providence College Women's Cross Country Places Second; Men Third at Central Connecticut Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Providence College women's cross country team placed second-overall, while the men were third at the Central Connecticut Inviational at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn. on October 25, 2008.

For the women, senior Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) led the Friars with a fourth-place finish, covering the 2 Mile course in a time of 11:22. Next to the finish was sophomore Katherine Leugers (Richmond, Vt.) 91st (11:24). Sophomore Emma Perron placed 10th-overall (11:26). Junior Amie Schumacher (Wolcott, Conn.) placed 15th (11:39), and sophomore Christina Conely (Andover, Mass.) was 19th (11:44) rounding out the scorers for the Friars.

The women's team scored 54 points, placing second-overall. Boston University won the meet with 49 points. Sarah Mosser of Boston University won the women's race in a time of 11:09.

On the men's side, junior Michael Anderson (Ajax, Ontario) led the charge placing second covering the 5 kilometer course in a time of 14:49. Sophomore Stephen Hankinson (Summit, N.J.) and senior Ben Saviet (Sutton, Mass.) crossed the finish line in eight (15:25) and ninth (15:26) place respectively. Sophomore Nicholas Barao (Riverside, R.I.) finished 12th (15:34) and freshman Corey Brunelle (Woonsocket, R.I.) placed 43rd (16:06). Freshman Zachary Hoagland (Hatfield, Pa.) finished 48th (16:11) and senior Nick Berluti (Westwood, Mass.) placed 53rd (16:15).

 

 

The men's team was third-overall scoring 73 points. University of New Hampshire won the Invitational with 45 points. Stony Brook's Alex Felce won the men's race in a time of 14:44. For Complete Results go to trackshark.com.

The next race for the Friars is Friday October 31, 2008 when they compete at the BIG EAST Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
