TERRA HAUTE, Ind. - The Providence College men's cross country team placed ninth-overall, while the women were 11th at the Pre-Nationals meet in Terra Haute.

For the men, Sophomore David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) placed sixth in a time of 23:40.8, leading the way for the Friars. Junior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) finished 46th (24:25.1). Senior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) ran to an 81st-place finish (24:46.1), Freshman Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) finished 93rd (24:51.7), and Tom Webb (Williston, Vt.) was 95th (24:52.8) rounding out the top-five scorers for the Friars.

The men's team scored 321 points, placing ninth-overall. Alabama won the meet with 89 points, followed by Northern Arizona and Michigan, respectively. Alabama David Tyson won the men's Blue race in 23:30.1.

On the women's side, Senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) led the charge placing 10th covering the 6k course in 20:23.8. Junior Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) finished 72nd (21:30.8). Junior Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland) placed 80th (21:34.9). Freshman Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) placed 84th (21:38.4). Senior Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) finished 88th (21:42.2).

 

 

The women's team was 11th-overall. The Washington women won with 36 points, followed by Villanova, and Minnesota. University of North Carolina's Brianna Felnagle took the win in a time of 20:02.4.

The next race for the Friars is Saturday October 25, 2008 when they compete at the Central Connecticut State Invitational in New Britain, Conn.
