Women's Cross Country Wins The Penn State Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Providence College women's cross country team captured the Penn State Invitational for the second consecutive season on Saturday, October 18. Junior Kimberly Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) led the way for the Friars as she captured the individual title in a time of 20:14.59. Junior Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) also ran a very strong race for the Friars as she finished second behind Smith in a time of 20:24. Sophomore Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) was the third Friar to finish in the top 10 as she placed ninth in a time of 21:10.54. Rounding out the scoring for the Friars were senior Lisa Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. (18th, 21:24) and junior Deirdre Byrne of Avoca, Ireland (19th, 21:25.26). Providence will compete again on Friday, October 31 at the BIG EAST Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
