Women's Cross Country Wins Third Consecutive Penn State Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The second-ranked Providence College women's cross country team recorded 49 points to capture the Penn State Invitational on Saturday, October 16 at the Penn State University Blue-White Golf Course. Senior All-American Kim Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) won the 6K race in a time of 19:46 to lead the Friars to their third consecutive Penn State crown. Providence, which has won the first four meets of the 2004 season, had three runners finish in the top 10. Senior All-American Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) finished third in a time of 20:23, while junior Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) recorded a time of 20:46 to finish seventh. Seniors Deirdre Byrne (Wicklow, Ireland) and Katie Twarog (Albany, N.Y.) finished 16th (21:21) and 23rd (21:34), respectively for the Friars. The Friars will compete again on Friday, October 29 at the BIG EAST Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
