Women's Cross Country Captures Penn State National Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The eighth-ranked Providence College women's cross country team earned 51 points and finished first of 19 schools at the Penn State National Meet at University Park, Pa., on Saturday, October 12. Providence was led by sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland), who finished third overall in a time of 21:00.26. All-American senior Roisin McGettigan of Wicklow, Ireland (8th -- 21:26.20), senior Emer O'Shea of Limerick, Ireland (12th -- 21:48.63), graduate student Heather Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. (13th -- 21:50.09) and sophomore Deirdre Byrne of Avoca, Ireland (15th -- 21:58.87) rounded out the scoring for the Friars. The Friars return to action on November 1 at the BIG EAST Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. at University Park, Pa. Distance: Cross Country (6,000 meters)
