NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Providence College men's cross country team placed fourth-overall, while the women were seventh at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday at the Notre Dame nine-hole golf course.

For the men, Sophomore David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) placed 12th in 23:58, leading the way for the Friars. Junior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) finished 23rd (24:14). Freshman Lee Carey (Bedworth, England) placed 25th (24:16). Senior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) ran to a 27th-place finish (24:17) and Freshman Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) finished 61st (24:42) rounding out the top-five scorers for the Friars.

The men's team scored 148 points, placing fourth-overall. Florida State won the meet with 81 points, followed by Tulsa and Texas A&M. Lamar's Samuel Kosgei won the men's Blue Division race in 23:32.

On the women's side, Senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) led the charge placing ninth covering the 5k course in 16:56. Senior Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) finished 48th (17:29). Freshman Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) placed 51st (17:31). Junior Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) finished 69th (17:42) and Junior Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland) placed 73rd (17:45).

 

 

The women's team was seventh-overall. Florida State women won with 88 points, followed by Princeton, Michigan, Stony Brook, Florida, and Southern Methodist. University of North Carolina's Brie Felnagle took the win in a time of 16:21. The next race for the Friars is Saturday October 11, 2008 when they compete at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, MA.
