MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The 13th-ranked Providence College women's cross country team finished third of 22 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 28. The Friars scored 112 points, while Michigan State scored 72 points to win the meet. Arizona State finished second with 107 points.

Senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) was the top Friar scorer as she finished in fifth place overall in a time of 21:18.6. Sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) placed seventh (21:21.7), while her classmate Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) finished 31st (21:59.8). Also scoring for the Friars were senior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), who finished 32nd (22:00.3) and grad student Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.), who placed 37th (22:08.0)

The Friars' next competition will be on October 11 at the New England Championship in Boston, Mass. The meet is scheduled to start at noon.
