Women's Cross Country Places 9th at Roy Griak Inv.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Providence College women's cross country team earned 271 points and finished ninth of 25 schools at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday, September 25. The Friars were competing without their top runner junior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa., who missed the race due to an illness. Providence was led by sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) who placed 12th in a time of 18:08. Senior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (32nd - 18:27), sophomore Claire Shearman of Portsmouth, N.H. (40th - 18:34), sophomore Katherine Casserly of Galway, Ireland (90th - 19:15) and freshman Roisin McGettigan of Wicklow, Ireland (98th - 19:24) rounded out the scoring for the Friars. The Friars return to action on Oct. 15 at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. at Minneapolis, Minn. Distance: Cross Country - 5,000 meters
