BOSTON, Mass. -- The sixth-ranked Providence College women's cross country team and the 16th-ranked Providence men each captured their second consecutive meet of the season by finishing first at the Boston College Select Meet on Friday, September 12 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.

The Providence women (31 points) finished ahead of nine teams, including 22nd-ranked Boston College (63 points) which finished second. The Friars had four runners finish in the top six. Junior Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) took first-place in a time of 17:01 while junior Kimberly Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) was a close second in a time of 17:02. Sophomore Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) and junior Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Crombie ran the 5,015-meter course in a time of 17:48, while Byrne finished in a time of 17:49. Also scoring for the Friars was junior Katie Twarog (Albany, N.Y.) who recorded a 17th-place finish in a time of 18:39.

The Providence men (29 points) defeated eight teams including second place Brown (74 points) in the 7,945-meter race. The Friars also had four runners in the top six as junior Patrick Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) finished first in a time of 24:19. Classmate Dylan Wykes (Kingston, Ont.) finished right on the heels of Moulton in a time of 24:20. Junior Patrick Guidera of Clonmel, Ireland (24:29) and sophomore Joe Dionne of Oshawa, Ont. (24:45) finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Graduate student Tim Curran (Northboro, Mass.), who was competing in his first race this season, scored for the Friars as he finished 16th in a time of 25:13.

 

 

Providence will return to action on Saturday, September 27 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
