Men's and Women's Cross Country Capture The Fordham Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The second-ranked Providence College women's cross country team and the Friar men's cross country team each earned a first-place finish at the Fordham Invitational on Saturday, September 11 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York, N.Y. The women's team scored 35 points and finished first of 18 teams. The men's squad scored 15 points and defeated 18 teams. In addition to the impressive Friar team performances, PC seniors Mary Cullen of Sligo, Ireland (first, 17:26) and Patrick Moulton of Pelham, N.H. (first, 25:00.50) each won the individual titles. The other members of the Friar women's team that scored were senior Deirdre Byrne of Wicklow, Ireland (second, 18:19.59), senior Katie Twarog of Albany, N.Y. (seventh, 19:01.13), junior Jane Nalder of Wellington, New Zealand (eighth, 19:07.85) and freshman Ashley Hughes of Phoenix, N.Y. (17th, 19:20.91).
The Friar men's team was led by Moulton's first place finish but also captured the next four places to earn a perfect 15 points. Senior Dylan Wykes of Kingston, Ontario (second, 25:22.99), junior Martin Fagan of Mullingar, Ireland (third, 25:30.10), senior Pat Guidera of Clonmel, Ireland (fourth, 25:33.03) and junior Joe Dionne (Oshawa, Ontario) also scored for the Friars. The men's and women's teams will return to competition on Saturday, September 25 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
