Women's Cross Country Wins URI Invitational
Sept. 9, 2000 KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team defeated Rhode Island to win its 15th consecutive University of Rhode Island Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9 in Kingston, R.I. Providence was led by junior Rachel Hixson (Media, Pa.) who finished first in a time of 18:00. The Friars dominated the meet as they captured the first five spots and seven of the first 10 positions. Sophomore Roisin McGettigan of Wicklow, Ireland (second, 18:00), freshman Lisa Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. (third, 18:01), junior Kathryn Casserly (fourth, 18:08) and sophomore Emily Tallen of Kingston, Ontario (fifth, 18:17) all scored for the Friars. The Friars return to action on Sept. 23 at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. at Kingston, R.I.
