DURHAM, N.H. -- The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2005 season by finishing first in a dual meet at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, September 3 in Durham, N.H. The Providence women's team took the top five spots and earned a perfect score (15), while the men's team had the top three finishers to earn 23 points.

On the women's side, the Friars had three runners finish with the identical time of 18:18 in the five kilometer course. Graduate student Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England), junior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.) and freshman Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) finished first, second and third, respectively. Senior Ashley Jensen of Lincoln, R.I. placed fourth (18:37), while sophomore Michelle Childs of Cameron, Ontario finished fifth (18:52). In all, the Friars took the top seven spots and eight of the top-10.

Senior Joe Dionne (Oshawa, Ontario) and sophomore Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) led the men's squad as they finished first and second, respectively in a time of 25:29. Graduate student Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland) finished third for the Friars as he recorded a time of 25:39. Junior Nick Weidman of Sudbury, Mass. (26:07) and Matt Licari of Amityville, N.Y. (26:16) also scored for the Friars, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively.
 

 

Providence will return to action on Saturday, September 10 at the Fordham Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
