Women's Cross Country Ranked No. 8
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College women's cross country squad is
ranked No. 8 in the country, according to the NCAA Women's Cross Country Poll
released on Monday, November 17.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Friars finished second of 27 teams at the NCAA District
1 Championship at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Junior Sarah Dupre of Kingston,
Ontario led the women's team as she finished fourth in a time of 18:17. Also scoring
for the women's team were freshman Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. (seventh - 18:26),
senior Maria McCambridge of Dublin, Ireland (ninth - 18:37), sophomore Dana Ostrander
of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (20th - 19:08) and Gladys Ganiel of Harrington, Maine (21st -
19:09).
By finishing second at the District 1 Championship, the Friars earned an automatic
bid to the NCAA Championship on Nov. 24 at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. PC,
which captured the 1995 NCAA title, will be seeking its ninth consecutive top 10
finish at this year's NCAA Championship.
The PC women's teams will return to action on Nov. 24 at the NCAA Championship at
Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
