Dec. 17, 2008

Providence, R.I. - Providence College Volleyball Coach Margot Royer will be inducted into the University of Scranton's Wall of Fame on Saturday, January 10, 2009. The ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Long Center on the Scranton campus. Royer will be joined by six other inductees and she is the first volleyball player to earn the honor.

The Wall of Fame was founded in 1970 to honor former student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and those in the community who have been instrumental in the overall development of The University of Scranton's athletics program. The university annually honors those who have distinguished themselves in the areas of intercollegiate athletics, coaching and administration by induction to the Wall of Fame. This year's class brings the wall's membership to 203.

While at Scranton, Royer was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom League MVP in 1994 and earned All-Conference First Team honors in 1993 and 1994. She served as team captain in her junior and senior seasons and was the recipient of the O'Hara Award as a senior, which is presented annually to the outstanding female athlete of the senior class.

Before her tenure at Providence, Royer served as assistant volleyball coach at Angelo State University in San Angello, Texas from 1997-99. In 2000, she was named PC head coach and has led the team to 48 wins over the last three seasons.

This past summer, Royer coached a select team against the Queensland Academy of Sport National Junior and Senior teams among others in Australia this past summer and has been selected to coach for USA Athletes International during a tour of Scotland next summer.
