Providence Volleyball Set To Finish Regular Season Against Georgetown and Villanova

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team travels to take on BIG EAST foes Georgetown and Villanova on Nov. 17-18. The Friars will face the Georgetown Hoyas on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6:00 p.m. Providence will then finish off the weekends action on Saturday when they take on the Villanova Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Providence College volleyball team has a record of 16-15 on the season. In BIG EAST play, the Friars are 5-11.

As a team, the Friars are ranked seventh in both assists per set (11.87) and kills per set (12.63). The Providence attack is being led by Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.). Root has 385 kills on the season and averages 3.56 kills per set. Along with Root, Providence has looked to Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) and Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.) for their attack. The three average 2.40, 2.16 and 2.13 kills per set, respectively.

Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) and Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) have two of the highest hitting percentages in the league. Schaible is ranked eighth (.317) while Impellizeri is ranked ninth (.313).

The attack has been set by Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.). The freshman is ranked sixth in the league with a 10.22 assist per set ratio.

Defensively, the team is ranked sixth in opponent hitting percentage as they hold teams to a .214 hitting percentage.   McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) leads the team with a total of 349 digs (3.23 digs per set). Barber and Root have both been solid in this category as well as they have 314 and 251 digs, respectively.

Schaible and Veverka have been a force on the front line for the Friars. The two average .83 and .68 blocks per set, respectively.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN:
The Georgetown Hoyas have a record of 8-20 on the season and are 2-14 in the BIG EAST.

The Hoya attack is centered around Symone Speech. Speech is ranked first in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.387) and third in the league in kills with a 3.69 kill per set ratio. On the season, Speech has a total of 406 kills. Alyssa Sinnette has also been an important part of the offense as she has tallied 278 kills (2.70 k/s). Paige McKnight is setting the offence with a 9.26 assist per set ratio and has 1000 assists on the year.

Georgetown relies upon Kenzie Higareda defensively. Higareda leads the team with 422 digs and averages 3.84 per set.

LAST TIME AGAINST GEORGETOWN:
The Friars won a five set thriller against Georgetown earlier in the season. Providence had three athletes with double digit kills. Root led the team with 21 while Onyundo and Schaible added 16 and 14 respectively. Barber tallied 44 assists in the victory.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA:
The Villanova Wildcats have a record of 16-11 on the season and are 9-7 in league play.

As a team, the Wildcats rank fourth in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.234), kills per set (13.34), and assists per set (12.52).

Allie Loitz and Mallory Potts rank ninth and 10th in the league in kills per set with 3.32 and 3.18, respectively. Villanova has four athletes with 200 plus kills. Along with Loitz (242) and Potts (232), Amanda Pedersen-Henry and Remy Fairchild have added 261 and 203 kills, respectively.

Emma Decker is setting the attack for Villanova. Decker averages a fifth best in the league, 10.46 assists per set and has a total of 952 on the season.

Ashley Knight averages 3.44 digs per set and has 341 digs on the season to lead the Wildcat defense. Regan Lough is not far behind Knight, as Lough averages 3.40 digs per set and has 313 on the season.

LAST TIME AGAINST VILLANOVA:
The Friars defeated the Wildcats in four sets. Root led the team with 21 kills while Onyundo, Schaible and Alderson added 14, 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Lydon recorded 14 digs to lead the Friars. Senior Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) tallied 12 digs, Barber recorded 11 and Root recorded 10. Barber also had 52 assists in the match.

Volleyball Moves To 2-0 In BIG EAST Play With 3-2 Win Over Georgetown
The Providence College women’s volleyball team defeated Georgetown, 3-2, (19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 15-7) in a BIG EAST contest at Alumni Hall on Sunday, Sept. 24. With the win, the Friars improve 13-4 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST on the season. Georgetown dropped to 6-8 (0-2 BIG EAST).

Providence Volleyball Earns First BIG EAST Win Of The Season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women’s volleyball team opened up its BIG EAST play on Friday, Sept. 22 against the Villanova Wildcats. The Friars won its opening match, 3 sets to 1 to improve to a record of 12-4 (1-0) on the season. With the loss, Villanova moves to 7-5 (0-1).
