Providence, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball finished its season this weekend in Fargo, N.D. at the National Division I Independent Tournament. Providence was defeated by South Dakota State, Utah Valley State, and Texas-Pan American. Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) make their mark in the record book.

In game one of the tournament, the Friars were defeated by South Dakota State, 3-0. The scores were 30-20, 30-26, 30-15. The Friars were led by junior Sarah Fleming (St. Paul, Minn.) with 10 kills. Sophomore middle-blocker Toney, added seven kills and a team-high three blocks. Sophomore setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had 25 assists.

In Providence's second game, they were defeated, 3-0 by Utah Valley State by the scores of 30-14, 30-14, 30-8. Fleming led the squad with four kills.

Providence was defeated by Texas-Pan America, 3-0 by the scores 30-22, 31-29, 30-21. Toney and Fleming each had a team-high nine kills while Toney had a game-high seven total blocks. Freshman Jess Storer (Wantagh, N.Y.) contributed five kills and 10 digs in the Friars final game.

The Friars finish the 2006 season with their highest win total since 2000. Also, Providence had a seven-game winning streak towards the end of the season that was the longest in over 10 years. Jeanette Toney recorded 123 blocks this season, which is good for third best in school history for single-season blocks. Sophomore libero Krahenbuhl, tallied 450 digs this year, which puts her fifth all-time in school history for single-season digs.
