PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team travels to take on BIG EAST foes Butler and Xavier on Nov. 11-12. The Friars will face the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. Providence will then finish off the weekends action on Sunday when they take on the Xavier Musketeers at 1:00 p.m.

The Providence College volleyball team has a record of 16-13 on the season. In BIG EAST play, the Friars are 5-9. The Friars are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they defeated DePaul 3-0 before losing to Marquette 3-0.
As a team, the Friars are ranked fifth in both assists per set (12.05) and kills per set (12.81). The Providence attack is being led by Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.). Root has 360 kills on the season and averages 3.56 kills per set. Along with Root, Providence has looked to Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) and Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.) for their attack. The three average 2.47, 2.30 and 2.08 kills per set, respectively.
Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) and Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) have two of the highest hitting percentages in the league. Impellizeri ranks seventh in the league with a .349 hitting percentage while Schaible is ranked ninth with a hitting percentage of .329.
The attack has been set by Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.). The freshman is ranked fifth in the league with a 10.37 assist per set ratio.
Defensively, the team is ranked fourth in opponent hitting percentage as they hold teams to a .207 hitting percentage. McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) leads the team with a total of 325 digs (3.22 digs per set). Barber and Root have both been solid in this category as well as they have 300 and 240 digs, respectively.
Schaible and Veverka have been a force on the front line for the Friars. The two average .84 and .75 blocks per set, respectively.
The Butler Bulldogs have a record of 20-6 on the season. The Bulldogs 10-4 BIG EAST record ranks them third in the league. Butler is currently riding a six match win streak.
As a team, the Bulldogs are ranked third in both hitting percentage (.248) and kills per set (13.66) while they are also ranked fourth in assists per set (12.42).
Whitney Beck has been a dual threat for the Butler as she leads the team in both kills with 307 (3.20 kills per set) and digs with 303 (3.16 digs per set). Offensively, the team is also relying on Anna Logan (3.15 kills per set), Brooke Gregory (2.29 kills per set) and Natalie Ravenell (2.17 kills per set). Makayla Ferguson has been the setter for Butler this year. Ferguson has 1033 assists on the year and her 10.54 assist per set average ranks third in the BIG EAST.
Butler’s main strength is its defense. The team ranks first in opponent hitting percentage (.166), first in blocks per set (2.75) and third in digs per set (15.91). The Bulldogs have the top two blockers in the BIG EAST with Rachel Klitzing (1.31 blocks per set) and Bri Lilly (1.29 blocks per set).
Taylor Takeda has been the libero for Butler this season. Takeda averages 4.22 digs per set. Along with Takeda, Logan (3.48 digs per set), Ferguson (2.50 digs per set), and Ravenell (2.42 digs per set) have been essential defensively.
LAST TIME AGAINST BUTLER:
The Friars were swept by Butler, three sets to none. Cayla Veverka recorded nine kills while Jenae Alderson, Megan Onyundo, and Addison Root each tallied six in support. Allison Barber recorded a double-double, leading Providence in both assists (25) and digs (13).
The Xavier Musketeers are 10-18 on the season and have a 5-9 record in BIG EAST play.
The Xavier offense is being led by Kristen Massa and Laura Grossman. Massa has 185 kills (3.36 kills per set) while Grossman has 187 kills (2.60 kills per set). Mackenzie Humm and Nadia Dieudonne have been the two setters for Butler. Humm has 449 total assists on the season and averages 5.35 assists per set. Dieudonne has 351 assists on the season and averages 4.50 assists per set.
Defensively, the Musketeers are ranked first in digs per set (16.10) and third in blocks per set (2.35). Xavier has relied upon Meredith Klare as the team’s defensive specialist. Klare averages 4.46 digs per set and has a total of 455 total digs on the season. Maya Krause and Lauren Frilling have been strong on the front line for the Musketeers as they have averaged 1.09 and .94 blocks per set, respectively.
LAST TIME AGAINST XAVIER:
The Friars defeated the Musketeers three sets to one. Providence was led by an 18 kill effort by Addison Root. Jenae Alderson added 11 kills as well. Allison Barber recorded 44 assists while McKenzie Lydon had 12 digs. The Friars held Xavier to a .178 hitting percentage.
