PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team signed four players for the 2007 season on Friday, November 10. Joining the squad next season will be Sondra Snyder, Torey Broback, Kourtney Halliday and Kristen Halliday. Coach Margot Royer has added four quality new players to an already experienced squad to next season's roster. Royer is building depth at each position with the signing of a setter, middle blocker, outside hitter, and a defensive specialist.

Sondra Snyder - Snyder, a 5'6 setter, will graduate in 2007 from Northern Valley Regional where she has earned three letters in volleyball. She was named team captain in her senior year as she guided the squad to the state quarterfinals. Sondra earned 2nd-team all-league honors for the NBIAL in her sophomore and junior seasons. In her senior year, she was named Athlete of the Week and named to the Clarkstown All-Tournament team. In 2004, Snyder and the Northern Valley Regional volleyball team were NBIAL league champions. Sondra is a National Honor Society member. A Norwood, N.J. native, Sondra has two sisters, Blair and Sara. She is the daughter of Bill and Katherine Snyder. She will be a management major.

Torey Broback - Broback, a 5'9 defensive specialist, will graduate from Lakeville North High School in the spring of 2007. Torey earned two letters in volleyball while attending Lakeville and was first with 70 service aces in 2006 in the Lake Conference. She helped lead her team to two Section IAAA championship titles in 2005 and 2006. Broback also participated in the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Tournament in 2004 and 2006. She was a four-year honor roll student in high school. Torey, a Lakeville, Minn. native, has one brother, Christopher. She is the daughter of Tim and Patty Broback. She will have a concentration in Global Studies.

Kourtney Halliday - Kourtney, a 6'1 middle blocker, will join the Friars in 2007 after graduating from Bourne High School. Halliday was a three-sport athlete earning letters all four years in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was named team captain in her junior and senior seasons. In 2004, Kourtney led her team to a state championship. In 2006, Bourne High School were the South Coast Conference champions. Kourtney was named to the South Coast Conference First-Team and the Cape Cod and the Islands First-Team in her junior and senior year. She was an honor roll student all four-years. Kourtney tallied 265 kills (.540 pct.), 76 aces, 191 digs, and 43 blocks in the regular season of her senior year. Kourtney, a Bourne, Mass. native, has one brother, Jimmy and two sisters, Kerri and Kristen. Kristen, her twin sister, also will be joining the Friars in 2007. She is the daughter of Jim and Karen Halliday. She expects to be a Nursing major.
 

 

Kristen Halliday - Kristen, a 6'1 outside hitter, will join the Friars in 2007 after graduating from Bourne High School. She was named team captain in her junior and senior seasons. Kristen was named to the South Coast Conference First-Team and the Cape Cod and the Islands First-Team in her junior and senior year. In 2004, Kristen led her team to a state championship. In 2006, Bourne High School were the South Coast Conference champions. She was an honor roll student all four-years. Kristen tallied 66 blocks, 155 kills (.437 pct.), 49 aces, and 210 digs in her senior year. Halliday, a Bourne, Mass. native, has one brother, Jimmy and two sisters, Kerri and Kourtney. Kourtney, her twin sister, also will be joining the Friars in 2007. She is the daughter of Jim and Karen Halliday. She expects to concentrate in Health Policy and Management.
