PROVIDENCE, R.I. -The Providence College volleyball team (1-24, 0-7) will play two matches at home this weekend. The first match on Friday, October 26 will see the Friars take on the UMBC Retrievers at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, October 28 the Friars will then face the Binghamton Bearcats at 1:00 p.m. to close out the weekend.
The Friars played only one match last week, falling at home to New Hampshire in straight sets. Sophomore Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) led the Friars with 12 kills and added seven digs. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) had a team-high 26 assists, while senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) tied for a match-high 13 digs. To date, four Friars have collected over 100 kills on the season, led by sophomore Anna Russian (Round Rock, Texas) with 198 kills. Six Friars have notched over 100 digs, led by Muzzonigro with 351.
Scouting UMBC (11-13, 4-3): The Retrievers are coming off back-to-back wins over Stony Brook (3-0) on Sunday, Oct. 14 and Binghamton (3-1) on Friday, Oct. 19. UMBC is led by Hannah Schmidt and Sherelle Walker with 235 and 232 kills, respectively. Mallory McIntyre leads the conference with a 11.31 assists per set average in conference matches. Earlier this season, UMBC defeated the Friars in four sets in Baltimore, Md. on Sunday, September 30.
Scouting Binghamton (7-16, 4-3): Binghamton played only one match last week, suffering a four set loss on the road to UMBC. Earlier this season the Bearcats defeated the Friars in straight sets in Binghamton, N.Y. In conference play, Alex Roland leads the America East with a .411 hitting percentage, while collecting 171 kills on the year. Amanda Dettmann ranks second in the conference with 282 assists and a 11.28 assists per set average in conference play. Binghamton will play at New Hampshire on Friday, October 26 before facing the Friars.
