Morrison Earned Independent Player of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (10-12) will open its season-ending, four-match road trip on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. against Central Connecticut State (10-9, 5-0) in New Britain, Conn. The Friars will look to extend their winning streak to three matches against the Blue Devils.

The Friars are coming off a 3-0 win against Bryant on Tuesday, October 6 in the team's home finale. Senior Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.) was honored in a pre-match ceremony for her four-year service to the team. The 5-9 outside hitter posted seven kills against the Bulldogs to help fuel the Friar victory. Sophomore Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) was a force at the net, pacing the Friars with 10 kills and hitting at a blistering .529 clip. Fletcher also posted a team-high two solo blocks and seven block assists. Her 22 solo blocks in 2009 places her first amongst Independent Volleyball student-athletes in that category.

Sophomore setter Carly Morrison (Larkspur, Calif.) notched 30 assists and set a career-high with five service aces for the Friars against Bryant. For her efforts, Morrison earned Independent Volleyball Player of the Week honors. Her 621 assists in 2009 ranks her second amongst Independent Volleyball student-athletes, while she places fourth with 32 service aces.

Central Connecticut State (10-9, 5-0) Central Connecticut State enters the match with a 10-9 record, including a 5-0 mark in Northeast Conference play. The Blue Devils are coming off a 3-2 win over Robert Morris on Sunday, October 11 in Moon Township, Pa. In the match, Jamie Baumert paced the team with 18 kills. Baumert ranks first on CCSU in 2009 with 200 kills and 82 total blocks. Amanda Bayer leads the team with 594 assists, while Kaitlin Petrella has posted a team-high 303 digs.
