PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College volleyball team (1-21, 0-4) will continue play in the America East with two matches this weekend. The Friars will play their next match in West Hartford, Conn. on Friday, October 12 when they take on the Hartford Hawks at 6:00 p.m. The team will return home when they host the Albany Great Danes at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14 in Alumni Hall.
The Friars played their first home match of the season on Sunday, October 7, falling to the Stony Brook Seawolves in three sets. Sophomore Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) led the Friars with 10 kills and added nine digs. Four players have collected over 100 kills this season for the Friars, while six Friars have notched over 130 digs, led by senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) with 314 digs. Freshman Lindsay Witt (Basking Ridge, N.J.) leads the America East conference with a 1.23 blocks per set average in conference play.
Scouting Hartford (6-14, 0-4): The Hartford Hawks will enter Friday's contest with the Friars on a four match losing streak. The Hawks hosted UMBC and Binghamton but fell to both in straight sets last weekend. Sareeta Nethersole leads the team in kills (284), hitting percentage (.255) and blocks (36). Jackie Tamburri leads the Hawks with 731 assists.
Scouting Albany (7-11, 4-0): The Great Danes will host the New Hampshire Wildcats on Friday, October 12 in a battle for the top of the America East before traveling to Providence, R.I. to take on the Friars on Sunday October, 14. Three players have notched over 100 kills for the Great Danes this season. Viktoriia Stroilo has maintained a 5.20 digs per set average to lead the America East.
