Junior Mackenzie Ziegler leads the Friars in kills

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (9-10, 2-1 America East) will travel to New Hampshire (8-11, 2-1 America East) on Friday, Oct. 11 for a 7:00 p.m. matchup, and then play at UMass-Lowell (0-14, 0-3 America East) on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
Last week the Friars went 1-1, losing to Binghamton (3-1) on Friday and picking up a win against America East preseason favorite, Albany (3-0), on Saturday. Freshman Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday for her play in the two games. It was her second-straight Rookie of the Week honor.
As a team, the Friars lead the America East in digs per set, averaging 15.52. Providence has 803 kills on the season, compared to the 785 registered by opponents. PC also has the edge in assists (744-728) and service aces (112-106) on the year.
Individually, freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) leads the America East in service aces per set (.52) and digs (4.48 per set). She also ranks 11th in the nation in service aces per set. Sophomore Lindsay Witt (Basking Ridge, N.J.) ranks third in the conference in hitting percentage (.273) and fifth in blocks (.92 per set). Junior Annie Russian (Round Rock, Texas) ranks in the top 10 in hitting percentage (.214). Two players are in the America East top 10 for kills; with junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) and Fitzgerald tallying 2.76 and 2.65 kills per set, respectively. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) is ranked second in the conference with 9.73 assists per game. Fitzgerald and Russian rank in the top 10 in service aces with .37 and .29 per set, respectively.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Wildcats own an overall record of 8-11 and are 2-1 in the America East. New Hampshire won its last match against UMBC on Sunday, 3-1. Morgan Thatcher leads the team in kills, with 2.82 per set. Taylor Dunklau has a team-best 9.04 assists per set and Madison Lightfoot has 4.22 digs per set. UNH ranks second as a team in hitting percentage in the America East (.182).
SCOUTING UMASS-LOWELL: The River Hawks have a record of 0-14, 0-3 America East on the season. Ella Merrill leads the team in kills per set with 1.97. Kamiren Humphrey leads in assist, with 3.32 per set, and Carolyn Eddy leads with defense with 3.65 digs per set.
