Providence College volleyball freshman Kayla Fitzgerald
(Redlands, Calif.) was named the Rookie of the Week by the America East for the second straight week, announced by the conference on Monday, Oct. 7. Fitzgerald helped the Friars go 1-1 this past week, including a 3-0 win against preseason America East favorite, Albany, on Saturday.
Fitzgerald recorded 28 kills (4.00 per set), 17 digs (2.43 per set), and four block assists (.57 per set) in two games. She registered a double-double (18 kills, 10 digs) in the victory against Albany. On Friday against Binghamton, Fitzgerald reached double-digits in kills with 10. The freshman currently ranks fifth in the conference in service aces per set (.37), sixth in kills per set (2.65) and 10th in digs per set (2.95).
The Friars hit the road this week, playing at New Hampshire on Friday, Oct. 11 and at UMass-Lowell on Sunday, Oct. 13. Game times are set for 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
