The Providence College volleyball team (8-9) will host Binghamton (2-12) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 and Albany at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars look to improve to 3-0 in the America East. Albany was picked as the preseason America East favorite and Binghamton followed in second.
Last week the Friars went 2-0, picking up wins against Bryant (3-1) and conference opponent Hartford (3-0).
The Friars enter the match led by junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) who has 2.71 kills per set, which ranks fourth in the America East. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has recorded 9.53 assists per set, ranking third in the America East. Freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) leads the America East in both digs (4.49 per set) and service aces (.49 per set). Cruz is ranked 15th in the country for service aces per set (29 total in 59 sets). Sophomore Lindsay Witt (Basking Ridge, N.J.) ranks third in the conference in hitting percentage (.290).
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON: Binghamton enters Friday with a 2-12 overall record and a 0-1 record in the America East. The Bearcats lost to Albany in their first conference match, 3-0. Binghamton's Grace Vickers has 2.62 kills per set to lead the team. Amanda Dettmann leads the squad in assists with 8.72 per set and Xiomara Ortiz has recorded a team-best 4.20 digs per game.
SCOUTING ALBANY: Entering the weekend, Albany has a record of 1-12 overall and is 1-0 in the America East. Prior to Saturday's game, the Great Danes will face off Hartford on Friday. Tatum Jungsten and Amanda Dolan are tied for the team lead in kills, averaging 1.71 per set. Rebecca Rivera is averaging 5.24 assists per game and Lauren Spreen leads the team in digs, with 2.51 digs per set.
