PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College volleyball team (1-19, 0-3 America East) will travel to Smithfield, R.I. for a non-conference showdown with in-state rival Bryant University (5-13, 0-3 Northeast Conference) on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. The match will be the final game of a 21 match road streak to start the season for the Friars.
Sophomore Anna Russian (Round Rock, Texas) leads the team with 164 kills and a .230 hitting percentage. Russian’s hitting percentage currently ranks eighth in the America East. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) leads the Friars with 548 assists and ranks third in the conference in total assists. Senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) owns a team-high 286 digs and a 4.09 digs per set average, which ranks third and fourth in the conference, respectively.
Scouting Bryant (5-13, 0-3 Northeast Conference): The Bryant University Bulldogs will enter Tuesday’s slate with the Friars on a four match losing streak. The Bulldogs last played on Saturday, September 29, where they fell at home, 3-1, to Sacred Heart. Claire Van dyk leads the Bulldogs with 184 kills, while Alexandria Clyburn leads Bryant with a .277 hitting percentage and 58 blocks.
Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
