Providence, R.I. -

The Providence College volleyball team will face Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Mullaney Gymnasium. The Friars enter the match with a record of 8-8 while the Knights are 10-7.

Providence posted a 1-0 record this past week, defeating Manhattan, 3-1, on Wednesday, September 24. The match marked the first time this season that two Friars have posted double-doubles in the same contest. Co-captain Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) contributed 32 assists and 12 digs to the Friar cause. With her 24th assist, Sheehan moved past Susan Fanning and into third place on PC’s all-time assists list. The 5-9 setter now has 2,806 assists for her career. Also registering a double-double was senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who recorded 15 kills and 10 digs.

Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) continues to hit at a record pace for the Friars. The 6-0 middle blocker leads Providence with 181 kills on the year and is hitting at an impressive .412 clip. Flynn currently ranks 14th nationally in hitting percentage and is on pace to break the Providence single-season record of .362, which she set last season.

Another Friar garnering national attention is Sheehan. She is currently averaging .43 aces per set, good for 62nd in the country. Sheehan has contributed 24 service aces on the season and currently ranks third on the Friars all-time list with 150 for her career.
