Volleyball Opens Conference Play On Sunday

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (7-9) will host Hartford (6-10) at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 in Alumni Hall. The game will be the Friars' first America East game of the season.

    In the Friars last match, they defeated Bryant on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 3-1. Hartford also played Bryant this year, picking up a 3-0 win.

    The Friars enter the match led by junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) who has 140 kills, which ranks fourth in the America East. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has recorded 529 assists, ranking second in the America East. Freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has registered 247 digs and 28 service aces which ranks her first in both categories in the American East. Cruz is currently tied for 15th in the country in aces per set (.50).

    SCOUTING HARTFORD: Hartford brings a record of 6-10 into Sunday's game. The Hawks have won their last three games, playing against Quinnipiac (3-1), NJIT (3-1) and Fordham (3-0). Hartford is led by Corinne Horanzy who has 120 kills. Jackie Tamburri has a team-best 518 assists and Paola Llerandi leads in digs with 178.
