PROVIDENCE R.I. --The Providence College volleyball team (1-16) will begin America East conference play when they travel to Durham, N.H. to face the New Hampshire Wildcats on Saturday, September 22 at 2:00 p.m.
The Friars played four matches last week, including a mid-week match versus cross-town rival, Brown. The Friars fell in three sets behind a game-high 22 assists by freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.). Over the weekend the Friars played in the Bucknell University Tournament and posted an 0-3 record. The Friars fell to Quinnipiac (3-2) on Friday, to Fordham (3-0), and host Bucknell (3-0) on Saturday. Senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) was named to the All-Tournament team after collecting 42 digs over the three matches. Sophomore Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) leads the team with 153 kills and Wiesler leads the team with 482 assists.
Scouting New Hampshire (7-8): The Wildcats of New Hampshire are coming off a five set win over Harvard earlier this week, which brought their record to 7-8. Like the Friars, New Hampshire will open conference play on Saturday when the two teams face off at 2:00 p.m. The Wildcats are led by Taylor Dunklau and Jessie Schnepp, who lead the conference in assists per set (9.91) and digs per set (4.97), respectively.
Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus conference opponent Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
